This is a perfusion fixed human heart that was donated for research. The donor was a 68 year old woman with a history of Parkinson's disease. This heart model highlights Right Atrial anatomy, showing the tricuspid valve from a superior view and a small atrial septal defect in the wall of the heart. This defect is approximately 1cm in diameter, and could potentially allow blood to mix between the two upper chambers of the heart. This type of ASD is classified as an "ASD secundum." The heart uses reference number 0271.
We partner with [LifeSource](https://www.life-source.org/) to receive donated organs deemed not viable for transplant.
