This unusual speciment is likely from the Broken Hill district of New South Wales, Australia. It is a foliated quartzite. Other minerals present include alamandine garnets (up to 1 centimetre), biotite, and long blades (up to 5 centimetres) of amphibole. While I am not sure of the composition of the amphibole, based on the other minerals present it is likely to be a low calcium one such as anthophyllite.
