Asset Overview
A shovel is a hand—held trench tool used mainly for work (digging, clearing, transferring) with soil, which is a tray (cloth) mounted on a handle (stalk). The generally accepted name of all straight shovels — bayonet — comes from the word "bayonet".
In ancient times, the tray (or, in other words, the blade, bayonet) of the shovel was made of wood, bone (from the shoulder blade), elk horn and other materials along with the handle. Later, a shovel for earthworks began to be bound with iron for strength, and then an all-metal tray appeared. The second obsolete Russian name of the shovel is "spade". Derived from "stepping in, stepping with your foot", that is, pressing on a metal bayonet with your foot.
