Asset Overview

The polarity and the bond strenght can affect the stregth of the acid. In this series, the bond strenghts are similar and therefore the strenght of the acid depends mostly on the polarity of the bond. As the electronegativity of the element increases from methane to fluorine ((from left to right on the periodic table), the polarity of the bond increases and the strenght of the acid increases. In this series hydrofluoric acid is the strongest and methane is the weakest acid.
