Asset Overview

The Constitution II Class Destroyer came out of a 2041 Navy RFP aimed at creating a next-generation mainstay surface ship. The US Navy was concerned that its long-range power projection was waning, with the Zumwalt and Arleigh Burk Class ships approaching 30-40 years of age and the Oregon Class Battleships too few in number. The winning proposal was Bethlehem Steel Works Project P05 Destroyer. The design was fully set in the 21st century making use of the advancements in railgun, laser and the sensor technology made in the past 30 years. Sometimes called "The Zumwalt done right", the ship proposed a return to artillery as a primary weapons system and focused less on complete stealth and more on balanced hull design and firepower. It was the first warship in history to feature railguns as a primary aspect of its design, while other nations such as China, Japan, The United Kingdom and Germany had deployed warships with railguns in some capacity, none had done so with the weapon as a centerpiece of the design.
