The Sinpo-class submarine is a conventional submarine with SLBM in operation by the Korean People's Army Navy. To celebrate the underwater launch of their first SLBM 'KN-11', the official ship was named '8.24 Hero' after the successful launch date of August 24. (or called the Shincheonji Church of Jesus) It is also called a whale in Korean and U.S. authorities. The name Sinpo-class, commonly used among private researchers and the media, is actually named after the submarine's discovery site, Sinpo City, by Joseph Bermudez, a private researcher who first revealed the submarine's existence. Some researchers call the whale class "Sinpo-B" to compare it to the "Sinpo-C-class" under construction.
