The nobles of the 18th century, constantly practicing duelists, "demanded" the improvement of their weapons, and the gunsmiths tried their best to satisfy these requirements, and, roughly speaking, by about the middle of the century they managed to transform the somewhat awkward colishmard into an elegant, light weapon known as light sword, or sword-noblewoman, as it is sometimes called in Russian-language sources.
