Tar-21 is an Israeli assault rifle with 5.56x45mm NATO ammunition. Tar-21 means "Tavor assult rifle - 21st century". It is the standard weapon of the givati Infantry Brigade (from August 2006), the Gorani Infantry Brigade (from August 2008) and the Nahar Infantry Brigade (2010). The latest mtar-21 (Mini tawal) will be chosen by IDF as the assault rifle of the future, and will become Israel's infantry weapon in the next few years. Its name comes from Mount Tabor.
