Asset Overview

3D model of the Liechtenstein Castle in Maria Enzersdorf. The first parts of the present castle complex were built by Hugo von Petronell around 1130. The castle was named after the light colouring of the rock ("light stone") Liechtenstein. After completion of the castle, Hugo von Petronell took its name and is therefore considered the progenitor of the House of Liechtenstein. Between 1249 and 1808 the castle was extended several times by high-ranking noble families. In 1683, it was largely destroyed during the Second Turkish Siege of Vienna. In 1807 Johann I Joseph bought the ancestral seat of his ancestors. Under Johann II Prince of Liechtenstein a general renovation of the castle was carried out in 1883, a second floor in the neo-romanticism style was added. In 1945 the castle was located in the main battle line of the Second World War. Since May 2010 the castle is accessible as a museum.
