Asset Overview

On the four corners of balustrades that face the Washington Monument in Baltimore sit sculptures created by Antoine-Louis Barye (1796-1875). They are figural groups depicting allegories of *War*,* Peace*, *Force*, and *Order*. On the back of the marble post that *Force* rests upon, someone has written "LAND BACK!", a reference to the Land Back movement that fights to restore stolen territory to Indigenous nations. The writing highlights how these sculptures reinforce the ideology of colonization and that the land they sit over was forcefully taken from its original inhabitants. Created using 213 images taken with a Nikon D750 and processed in RealityCapture.
