Asset Overview

Luxor Obelisks are a pair of carved Ancient Egyptian obelisks, originally standing on each side of the portal of the Luxor Temple during the reign of Ramesses II. While one is still located in Egypt, the other obelisk was given to France in 1830 then placed in place de la Concorde, in Paris, in 1836. Obelisks made of syenite and graved with hieroglyphs in veneration of the Pharaoh Ramesses II. Both were supposed to end in France but only one was carried. Because of the height and weight (23 meters and more than 250 tons) the transport itself was an important challenge.
