An innovative and perhaps unique design of calcining kiln built in the late 19th century to serve Rosedale East mines. Originally three large bays with metal shuttering on the front (see old photo below), this is the best preserved bay of the three. Many questions remain as to how these kilns operated and whether they were built before or after the more tradtional Stone Kilns around 1/2 mile further south along the Rosedale Railway.
