Asset Overview
This decorated stone was discovered during excavations at Balblair Quarry, Balblair, nr Inverness, Scotland in 2004. The stone formed the side of a cist at the centre of an extensively disturbed stone cairn. The grave has been disturbed in the past but the excavation recovered pottery sherds from an early Bronze Age 'Food Vessel' and a flint thumbnail scraper.
This model captures the decorated face of the stone, which faced the interior of the cist. The complete stone measures c.1.3m long, by 0.62m wide and 0.10m thick. The decoration on this stone is unique in Scotland.
