Asset Overview

This model show the E portion of the large rock panel, Broughmore Wood 1, which is split by a deer fence. This is a complex rock surface which has rock art motifs (notably rosettes, cup marks and oval-shaped cup marks) together with arrays of miniature quern stone rough-outs and larger quernstone to millstone sized rough-outs. Activity possibly extending from the Neolithic/Bronze Ages through the Iron Age through to post-medieval activity. A plan is now in the pipeline for a full excavation of the site, which it is hoped will shed more light on its chronology and, hopefully, reveal even of these more fascinating rock surfaces. This panel was recorded and 3D modelled by Nick Parish for Scotland’s Rock Art Project (ScRAP).
