Asset Overview

This small panel was found in wet ground at the edge of an arable field SSE of Ballycaul Farm steading. It was lying among loose stones scattered below a bedrock outcrop, beside a field wall with quarrying to the SSE. Possibly it had been cut for use in the field wall. An electricity line passes overhead at the location where the panel was found, about 40m NE from the A844 roadside. There are views SSW to Nether Ardroscadale Ridge and Ardroscadale Farm steading, NNW to Inchmarnock and Arran as well as S to St. Ninian's Point. Note: in view of the risk to this panel, it has been removed for relocation to Bute Museum. Photography Patrick O'Sullivan, Bute Museum & NHS, ScRAP and Rock Art Bute Team
