Asset Overview

The full-body figure of Christ was carved in oak wood. Christ stands in contrapposto with slender proportions, an oblong face and wavy hair reaching to his shoulders. The right forearm has been broken off. Originally, it was probably raised in the gesture of blessing. In his left hand, at hip level, Christ holds a globe – originally topped with a cross. The figure is dressed in a tunic and a cloak. A single straight fold at the front of the tunic flows down to its bottom edge. Next, there is a similar, one running down from the height of the hips. A cloak is donned over the tunic, draped in deep-cut, sharp folds. The left tail is folded, pressed to the side with the left hand; below it is draped into a U-shaped fold. The lower edge of the tail is wrapped. 15th/16th century Museum of the Benedictine Abbey in Tyniec Inventory number: RZ/3/2012
