**Ephebe**
Pentelic marble.
1st Century AD.
From the *Necropolis* of Portus on the *Isola Sacra* in Ostia Antica, Italy.
In Ancient Greek sculpture, an **Ephebe** is a sculptural type depicting a nude *ephebos*, an adolescent of about 16-20 years old. A head such as the one seen here was likely carved as a separate piece, intended for later insertion into a generic adolescent male body form.
