Asset Overview

Ornately decorated flintlock musket. 62 cm octagonal iron barrel inlaid with silver designs including curling leaf and flower motifs and set into a dark stained wood stock. Stock and barrel are decorated all over with extensive silver wire inlays in elaborate organic designs of swirls, dots, and wavy lines. There is a small wheel-like circular design with curved, radiating lines of silver situated on both sides of the stock just behind the mechanism. The barrel of the musket has three brass bands, each band is decorated with a twisted wire design along the edge and is set with a hand-cut, turquoise stone, in a crown-like setting. The butt of the gun is covered in a plate of ivory that is cracked and broken with part missing. There are also ivory inlays on the barrel, trigger plate, and along the side of the gun. The iron flintlock mechanism is set with an inlaid silver design depicting a crecent moon and stars. https://stanford.pastperfectonline.com/webobject/A532DEF2-90F3-417A-B555-975382808407
