Asset Overview

On the station square in Bruckneudorf, Burgenland, there is a monument that is unique in Austria. It shows Franz Joseph I as King of Hungary in the uniform of a cavalry general with the ribbon of the Royal Hungarian Order of Saint Stephen. The monument consists of a 2.2 metre high bronze bust standing on a 4.2 metre high limestone plinth. The plinth is decorated with laurel leaves and oak leaves and shows the Hungarian coat of arms with St Stephen's crown. The bust was made in Paris. On 24 June 1900, the monument was unveiled in the presence of Archduke Ferdinand Karl in Bruckneudorf, which at that time still belonged to Hungary. After Lower Austria and Vienna, I now also start recording monuments from Burgenland and share them with you.
