Asset Overview
**Funerary ensemble of the craftsman Pestjenfi**
Although his title of a craftsman of the temple of Amun does not designate him as a person of highest rank Pestjenfi’s (PꜢy⸗s-ṯnf.ỉ) coffins and his canopic chest are very thoroughly carpentered and painted. The use of three instead of two coffins is a sign of a more exclusive burial set, too. The outer coffin (ÄM 50), now lost, featured decoration made of wooden panels instead of painting.
Interestingly, the same cannot be said about the inscriptions. The captions to the images of protective divinities consist only of short formulas. The spells from the Book of the Dead on the outer sides of the case and of the foot end of the inner coffin have been copied line by line beginning at the end of the text.
A commented edition of the ensemble is being prepared by Burkhard Backes.
