Asset Overview
Govan 27 ([Stirling Maxwell’s numbering](https://archive.org/details/sculpturedstone00maxwgoog/page/n46/mode/2up); ECMS 17) is one of 31 early medieval recumbent cross-slabs originally recorded at Govan Old in 1899. These monuments would have originally laid flat in the churchyard, likely marking the grave of a significant early medieval individual. The inscription was added around 1634, when the stone was reused. This is the earliest confirmed date we have for this type of reuse.
