Asset Overview

Johann Friedrich Ludwig Christoph Jahn (aka. "Turnvater Jahn", roughly meaning "father of gymnastics" Jahn) is credited with the founding of the German gymnastics movement which was intended to prepare the youth for the fight against the Napoleonic occupation in 1813. 1857 multiple gymnastics clubs demanded errecting a Jahn-Memorial on the gym-grounds. A competition was held which was ultimately won in 1967 by Erdmann Encke. His proposed design of the standing politian, idiologue and sports pedagogue was cast 1870 by the Hermann Gladenbeck foundry in Berlin. It was inaugurated august 10th 1872, delayed by the Franco-German War. -- This text is a WIP. It might contain inaccurate information. --
