Designed for observation, the Nieuport 12 served with the U.K.’s Royal Flying Corps (RFC), the Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS), as well as the air forces of France, Italy and Russia.
The Nieuport 12 found at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum was donated to Canada by the government of France. It was initially exhibited across North American to help raise support for the war effort. It was transferred to the Museum in 1965 and is one of only two known to exist worldwide.
