This specimen is one of 16 Paleolithic chipped-stone tools replicated about 1929 by French archaeologist Abbe (Henri) Breuil, Institute of Human Paleontology, Paris, France. It is part of a larger collection of Paleolithic artifacts that was acquired in 1929 by James Bell Bullitt during a tour of western Europe and later donated to the University of North Carolina.
