The tramway was constructed entirely of dressed granite blocks forming a channel for the tram wheels to run in This unique granite tramway was used in the 1800s to transport granite for building use (mostly to London) from the quarries around Haytor to the Stover canal near Bovey Tracey & loaded onto barges.
