Asset Overview

The upturned remains of a Bren Gun Carrier, or Universal Carrier, amongst the amidships blast damage on the wreck of the SS *Thistlegorm* in the Red Sea. The vehicle is at about 30m lying in a bed of iron wreckage, with the two hull sections towering over the scene to either side. There are already excellent models of the whole of the *Thistlegorm* on Sketchfab with the area visible. Bren Gun Carriers were ubiquitous in British forces throughout the Second World War, with examples common in museum collections. The running gear of this example can be seen sprung loose on the central suspension, presumably released from place by the tracks breaking. Sections of track can be seen still attached on the lead running gears. The wreck remains a brilliant dive despite overcrowding, with other vehicles, munitions and rolling stock to be seen. Source photos for this are really not great, but I'm sure I could make this better. Dived in July 2019. Main bow winch of the *Thistlegorm*: https://skfb.ly/6MzJL
