Asset Overview

* Period/Epoch: Paleogene / Eocene * Rock Formation: Wasatch Fm. * State, County: WY, Sweetwater * This specimen was found on Federal Land managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Taxonomy: Mammalia>Primates>Adapidae>Notharctus venticolus Northarctus venticolus is an extinct species of Eocene primate from North America and Europe. Northarctus venticolus is notable for having the earliest fossil evidence of sexual dimorphism in primates, denoted by the size and shape of the upper canines. Behavior of the animal is assumed to be similar to that of the New World monkeys, though the relationship of Northarctus and modern New World monkeys is still being defined. This is the left lower jaw of the animal. Scanned with the David SLS-2
