Asset Overview
One of the tests conducted at the Digital Archaeology Lab lately was to create a model of the same metal tin using every application that we had at our disposal, so as to have comparative data. We wanted to use a metal object with lots of text and patterning, because we thought it would be a good way to put applications through their paces in a different way than the ironstone sherd did. This particular model was made using Metascan, an iPad application with both LiDar and photogrammetry capabilities. We used the photogrammetry function to create this model.
The tin itself is a tasty imported Portuguese snack of sardines in a spicy tomato sauce. The company, Bom Petisco, factory sits on São Miguel in the Azores islands of Portugal and has been there since 1962, a reflection of the changing migratory fish routes that took place after over-fishing occured along the Algarvian coast. The word *petisco* means “small dish” or “snack” in Portuguese.
