Asset Overview

This specimen is a granular gray rock composed of feldspar (sodic plagioclase) and considerable hornblende and biotite. Biotite, the more abundant mafic mineral, contains numerous magnetite inclusions. Hornblende, mottled brown with some green, includes magnetite and some apatite. Titanite (sphene) and pyrite (chiefly included in large magnetites) are the other accessories. This sample is from Rutland County, Vermont, USA (near Cuttingsville).
