From the 4 March 1876 Santa Cruz Sentinel:
"...Mr. Pittman came to this coast in the year 1868, eight years ago and after visiting different places, established himself in business at the town of Wadsworth, Nevada, where he resided until near the period of his death. Advised by his physician, he come to San Francisco about two weeks ago, but not being benefited by the change, came to this city on Wednesday, the 23rd, where fortunately, but unexpectedly, he met Mr. T- an old and warm friend of his father's. Mr. T- immediately conveyed him to his own residence, and accorded him all the comforts and attentions of a home. Contrary to his hopes, he [sank rapidly native?] strength, though resolute, yielding to the superior influence of disease until the morning of the 26th, when death brought to an end at once his sufferings and his life....A stranger in a strange country, he yet died in the midst of friends...."
