Asset Overview

Normal fault in southern Death Valley. The existence of an active fault is revealed by the asymmetric distribution of alluvial fans. In the east, at the foot of the Black Mountains, the fans are very small, because actvity on the range-front fault keeps burying them under the valley-bottom sediments, whereas the western fans, at the foot of the Panamint Range, have had a chance to develop undisturbed by tectonics.
