Asset Overview
Sharp, unconformable contact between the volcanic basement (greenish, due to chloritization) and the base of the Tortonian-Messinian sedimentary sequence above it. The latter starts at this location with half a meter of a coarse volcaniclastic sandstone with carbonatic cement, followed by a calcirudite with fragments of bivalves, bryozoa, and corals. This calcirudite is the lateral equivalent of the rhodolith-rich layer found in the same stratigraphic position (but at sea level) on the southern side of Cala del Cuervo (see annotation 2 on model). The lateral color changes in the model are due to photo sets taken under very different light conditions. In default view, NW is to the left, and SE to the right. Cala del Cuervo, Las Negras, Cabo de Gata Natural Park, Spain. Lat 36°52'22.49"N, Lon 2°0'23.25"W, elevation 21 m.
