Asset Overview
In 1895, the house Ardiaca, built in the XII century, became the headquarters of the city's Lawyers. The modernist architect Domènech i Muntaner was commissioned to renovate the building, adding his modernist touches. One of the most outstanding features of this house is its peculiar modernist mailbox, located at the door and designed by Alfons Juyol.
Five swallows represent the freedom of justice and the speed that everyone wants in a trial, a turtle represents the slowness of the judicial system. The leaves (a total of 7) of ivy symbolize the bureaucratic entanglements. And finally, and accompanying all of them, the mailbox has the coat of arms of the Barcelona Bar Association, which if you look at it has a scale that represents the equality that justice should be equal for all. There is a legend about the turtle of this mailbox, that not all Barcelonians have the privilege of knowing, and that is that caressing the turtle's shell brings good luck.
