**Resting Hunter**
From the park of the Château de Marly (near Paris); placed in the horseshoe pond at the foot of the Rivière cascade.
Marble, 1707-1710
This work depicting a hunter and his dog, and the two statues of nymphs on display on either side of him, form an elegant triad of sculptures on the theme of the hunt. All three figures seem to be enjoying a moment of peace and tranquility amid the excitement of the hunt. At Marly, they dialogued with another triad of sculptures commissioned at the same time from Coustou's uncle, Antoine Coysevox: the Faun Playing the Flute and two other nymphs, on display nearby.
