A megalodon tooth from a Carcharodon chubutensis, a prehistoric megashark, which is part of the Natural History Society of Maryland’s fossil collection. This species lived during the Miocene Period and dates from approximately 28 to 5 million years ago. The prominent diagnostic characteristics of this tooth is the serrated cusps sides and serrated vestigial cusps.
