3D model of a canid skull, probably of a dog or fox. The skull has a small dorsal crest and a similar size and morphology to a small Spaniel or Terrier. All the dog bones were compared with recent specimens and are similar to small dogs measuring up to 44 cm at the shoulder, such as Spaniels, Fox Terriers, and Miniature Poodles. For comparison, the local Icelandic Sheepdog usually has a height of 42-48 cm at the shoulder. This is a spitz type breed, thought to originate from Norwegian spitz type dogs brought over by the Viking settlers. As with other Icelandic animal breeds, there is now a closed gene pool but prior to that it is unlikely that there was much outside influence.
