In the *Museo dell'Opera del Duomo*, in Florence, Italy.
This *Pieta* is Michelangelo's penultimate sculpture. In 1555, upon finding a fault in the marble, the elderly Michelangelo destroyed the sculpture.
In **1671** Cosimo III de'Medici purchased the reconstructed sculpture, and placed it in the crypt of the Basilica of San Lorenzo. In **1722** it was transferred to the Florence Duomo.
