This is a fresh human heart that was donated for research. The donor was a 67 year old female with a history of atrial fibrillation, coronary artery disease, high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), and bypass and stenting surgeries to repair a myocardial infarction (aka a "heart attack"). This 3D model was generated from a structured light scan of the heart before it was perfusion fixed. The heart was filled with a white foam to semi-inflate the chambers and was suspended by alligator clips.
We partner with [LifeSource](https://www.life-source.org/) to receive donated organs deemed not viable for transplant.
