Asset Overview
The CSS Alanta was a casemate ironclad which served for the Confederate navy and then was later captured by the Union, during the American civil war. Similar to Virginia she was converted from another ship into an ironclad, in this case a British blockade runner named Fingal. First aquired in September 1861 and commisioned in November 1862. In June 1863 she was captured after a 15 minute enguagement with 2 Union ironclads on the Willmington river and later repaired and pressed into union service, where she would serve until the end of the 1860's when she was sold for scrap.
