Asset Overview

HNoms Thor was built for the Norwegian navy in 181, whilst Norway was still part of Sweden. The Thor was an improvement over the Skorpionen class of monitors being wider, and carrying overall more armour with 7 inches (177.8mm) of deck armour and 14 inches (355mm) of turret armour. Her career was largely uneventful, with a probable party thrown in 1905 when Norway broke free of Swedish rule. In 1919 she was sold for scrap and towed to the scrapyard, however in the process she was lost in a storm when the towing cable broke thus doing a "Warspite", and so ended up stranded on an island outside Verdens Ende. Sadly 2 men died during this. She would later sink and a salvage operation removed parts of the ship however you can still go and see her, as she is still largely intact at 7-14 meters underwater.
