The **Scrovegni Chapel**, also known as the Arena Chapel because of the nearby Ancient Roman arena.
The chapel is known for its impressive cycle of frescoes painted by **Giotto**, a Florentine painter and architect.
Nearly every interior surface of the chapel is covered in frescoes, depicting "The Life of Christ" and "The Life of the Virgin".
The large counter-facade, above the doorway, includes a depiction of Hell clearly inspired by *The Divine Comedy* of **Dante**.
