Sutton Hoo Helmet

History Brief : Emblematic helmet from the upper English middle age (VII century) this piece is believed to have belonged to King Rædwald of East Anglia, one of the eight Bretwaldas of Britain (the fourth). It was discovered in a large funeral boat covered by a tumulus. The name of the archeological area, near the small town of Sutton (which from old english sut + tun mean south farmstead or village) and Hoo ( Hoh, describing a hill shaped like a heel spur) gave by extension the name to the entire treasure. This helmet demonstrate the qualities of Saxon craftsmanship at this time. It was a part of a most important funeral treasure with several equipment pieces like Sword, Belt Buckle, Shield and other ornementations.
