Another photogrammetry based 3D terrain from images from Perseverance MastCam-Z on SOL 116. Ingenuity was added, but prettys sure it never took off from this location.
Techncial Notes:
I have been testing Apple's new photogrammetry API in Mac OS 12 with good results & minimal work; especillay if using an iPhone. However an iOS device is not needed as Apple would lead you to believe & any set of overlapping images will work. The terrain here has a few problems, but this has more to do with the way Perseverance captures images for 2D mosaics, & not for photogrammetry. Regardless, it takes longer to select & scrape the images off the web, than to run the 'Object Capture' test CLI app.
I also like it because it gives you basic PBR textures sans Metallic or Emission but those are easy to add. Here, there are only a few areas that may have metal (mainly oxide). I did however create emission, subsurface & specular textures to add more depth & illumination to the sand and I will start testing 800nm images soon.
