Asset Overview

USS Monitor was an Ironclad built for the Union navy during the civil war. Ordered on the 4th of October 1861, Laid down on the 25th and Launched on the 30th of January 1862, before being completed and comissioned on the 25th of Febuary. She was ordered in response to the construction of the CSS Merrimack by the Confederate states as they were using the hull of the former USS Virginia as the basis of their ironclad, as the confederate navy wished to break the blockade imposed on them by the Union Navy. The Monitor would sea its first battle at Hampton roads mere days after it's commissioning against its rival; the Merrimack on the 9th of March. This would be the first Iornclad-Ironclad engaugement in history. For most of the enguagement both Ironclads were unable to do series harm for atleast 4 hours, though not for lack of trying, however by the end both ships disenguaged with effectivly a draw. The end of the Monitor would come on the 31st of December when she sunk in a storm on route to Charleston.
