Asset Overview

The Rolf krake was a Danish ironclad warship built in Govan - Scotland. Her name came from the 6th century semi-legendary Danish king Rolf Krake, who appears in various sagas from Beowulf to the Skjöldunga saga. She was laid down in 1862 and launched a year later on the 6th of May and then a month later she was commissioned into the Danish navy, and was Denmarks first ironclad warship. She was typical of her era of early ironclads in that she used both sail and steam propulsion as a means of moving from place to place, mostly as steam engines at this time weren't the most reliable but unlike sails could provide movement in any direction. . Her first and only enguagements were in the Second War of Schleswig, with Her life being quite uneventful afterwards, and she was finally scrapped in 1907.
