Asset Overview

HSwMS John Ericksson was an Ironclad designed under John Ericksson's supervision, based on his original design for the USS Monitor, and built for the Swedish navy. The vessel was laid down in June 1864 and completed in November 1865, along with her sister ships: Loke, Thordon, Tirfling, and Mjølner. The later was built for the Norwegian navy. As built they displaced 1500 tonnes, and carried 2x 380mm guns as theyre sole armament. Armour was around 125mm for the main belt, 370mm for the turret and 43mm for the deck. For their entire career they served in the Swedish navy as coastal defence vessels, and occationally made trips to nearby foreign stations, and never saw direct combat. During 1881 she was re-armed wuth 240mm guns, then reconstructed in 1892 with a new superstrucutre and weaponry. Being sold for scrap in 1919.
