Hms Devastation was an Ironclad turret ship designed and built for the Royal Navy. She was laiddown in November 1869, launched in 1871 and then comissioned in April 1873. Devastation was a large leap forward in warship design as she was one of the first ships to never feature sails as primary or secondary propulsion, and was one of the first if not the first to provide what would become the standard for and aft turret layout. She also featured improvements and lessons learned from the recently capsized HMS Captain in the form of a higher freeboard and improved armour and weapons loadout. Devastation would undergo several refits through her life, but would never see combat before being stricked and sold off for scrap in 1907 to make way for more Dreadnoughts.
