Asset Overview
Tordeskjold was a Norwegian coastal defence ship named after Peter Tordenskjold, a Norwegian vice admiral of the Dano-Norwegian navy. Tordeskjold and her sister ship Harald Haarfagre, along with the 2 newer Eidsvolds, were built as part of a naval re-armament as Norway was part of Sweden at this time, however in 1905 that came to an end when Norway became fully independant. In the 1910's Norway had also ordered a pair of Bjørgvin-class coastal defence ships to try and bolster their navy, however ww1 broke out and so britain bought those ships before they could be delivered.
She was Launched in 1897 and commisioned a year later. During Tordeskjolds career she seen no action, so had taken part in mostly ordinary duties untill ww2 called on her. After the German invasion of Norway both Tordeskjolds were seized and later turned into AA ships. In May, 1945 she was damaged by British aircraft at Svolvaer and beached, being refloated a year later, and used as a floating barracks before being sold for scrap in 1948.
