Hinvizoun Sacred Forest for Climate and Communit

The Hinvizoun Sacred Forest, as a lot of forest ecosystems in Benin, in under numerous threats and pressures. Most of them are anthropogenic, such as unsustainable farming practices, abusive use of resources, coal production, urbanization and seasonal migration of livestock. The loss and degradation of this forest is a threat to the means of subsistence for local communities but also to their cultural and traditional values. Biodiversity is also highly affected, and various species already got extinct in this area such as antelopes or crocodiles. This project focuses on restoring forest ecosystem, mitigate climate change and fight against poverty through the development, and promotion of community-based & sustainable management of the resources of the forest.
