Asset Overview

In 2010, El Boldo Park was inaugurated and symbolically handed over to the community of Zapallar. In 2017 the land of the Park was taxed through a "Derecho real de Conservación" in favor of the Municipality of Zapallar, which meant the consolidation of this as a private protected area in perpetuity, however, the road to this point was not easy. In 2001, a real estate company designed and managed to approve a large-scale project on El Boldo hill, which consisted of 166 apartments, a convention center, and a large hotel on the highest part of the hill. This project, in addition to seriously affecting the environmental heritage of the Zapallar forests, did not comply with the regulatory plan of the commune and, as a result, the municipal authorities of the time called on the citizens to vote in a plebiscite. On August 31, 2003, 3,355 citizens voted in favor of protecting the commune's forests.
